BrandZ, Xen and Chime for Solaris 10 U3 ?

Hi, Solaris 10 experts,

I know that I am still finding my ways in OpenSolaris or Solaris world.
But whenever we talk about BrandZ, Xen and Chime, it seems that we
only talk about them inside OpenSolaris, I know that they will be
available in
official Solaris updates. But if I need them today to be incorporated
into Solaris 10,
say, U3 (11/06), am I out of luck ?

Thanks for any pointers.

Someone else will have to respond about S10 integration of Xen and
Chime, but BrandZ is in the next update, S10 U4.

AFAIK, currently there are neither plans nor resources to
backport Chime and its interfaces to an S10 update release.
For a more definitive answer, you might want to contact
the dtrace-dicsuss at opensolaris dot org forum or tom dot erickson at sun dot com.

Penny / BrandZ experts,

Is BrandZ in S10 U4 going to support 2.6 Kernel of Linux ?

What time can we expect Kernel 2.6 to be fully supported ?

Thanks.

For Solaris 10 8/08 (Solaris 10 U4) the dates are
as follows:

RR: 8/07/07
GA: 8/27/07

The docs should publish to docs.sun.com
by the RR date.

BrandZ will be in this U4 release. Xen will be in a
future release after U4.

I do not know about Chime. If I find out, I will
post the release information.

Penny,

Can you share what has happened to the Xen development and community?

Xen was running strong for some time, then everything just appeared to
stop. Even the OpenSolaris Xen mailing list was dead. For several
months, I would try to send a post to the mailing list, but was unable
to even successfully send a test post.

Recently, I have received a couple of updates on the Xen list regarding
a new project called "R Bridge", but otherwise, it is still dead.

The rumor I had (and it was just a rumor) was that U4 would have some
level of Xen support, but from the post below, it looks like this has
been pushed back.

Can you share any insight into the Xen community?

thank you,

Jerry K

Xen will not be in update 4. We are pushing towards integrating into
Nevada sometime this summer.

We're actively working on getting another release out to OpenSolaris. I
have my latest attempt at building an ISO image spinning in another window
right now.

This new release will be based on Nevada build 66. It's been a
ridiculously long time since our last release, and I apologize for that.
Due to the logistics involved and the upcoming US holiday, it's unlikely
that this will make it to the web site before the second week in July.

As soon as it's available, we'll send an announcement to xen-disuss and
osol-announce.

These ones ?
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1236.7

Or they are not published yet?

Hi Leon,

The Solaris 10 7/07 HW Release and Installation Collection
(http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1236.7) is a specific hardware release.

The BrandZ coverage for S10 8/07 will be in the S10 8/07 "System
Administration Guide: Solaris Containers--Resource Management and
Solaris Zones" in the Solaris 10 System Administrator Collection
(http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/47.16). I am hearing that it
will be available on docs.sun.com ~September 5th.

In the meantime, you can view the BrandZ information in the
SX (OpenSolaris) version of the guide at
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2450. There are some things
that have not yet backported, but it's fairly close.

By the way, there is a new update release for Xen
(http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/xen/); this blog describes
it: http://blogs.sun.com/levon/entry/solaris_xen_update.
