Mozilla community just released Firefox 3.5.2/3.0.13 to address some
security issues:

http://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox30.html

Firefox 3.5.2/3.0.13 contributed builds for OpenSolaris/Solaris 10 are
now available.

As mentioned earlier, some work has been done to enable the automatic
update for the contributed builds. For Firefox 3.5.1 users on
OpenSolaris x86, simply go to "Help"->"Check for Updates..." could
upgrade your Firefox to 3.5.2. Any problem, please let us know.

Are there any plans to make Firefox/Thunderbird contrib builds available through some IPS repository which is updated closely following Mozilla releases?

Don't know of any plan for that. Since Firefox 3.5.x is already in /dev,
I don't think we should put another copy to /contrib.

Anyway, if there are interests from the community to host IPS repository
for contributed Firefox/Thunderbird, I'd be very glad to get rid of the
SVR4 build for OpenSolaris :-)

Thanks,
-Alfred

Thank you Alfred for all your work! I upgraded FF3.0b3 (from OpenSolaris
2009.06 to this latest version.
Man, what a difference in speed! I'm very pleased to have this latest
version on my oso****lease. I don't have the de /dev version running due
to too many bugs recently. But this FF is great!

Thanks - it installed without problems and seems mostly quite stable.
However, it does crash

(firefox-bin:20950): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: file gstelement.c: line 2030: assertion `GST_IS_ELEMENT (element)' failed

(firefox-bin:20950): GLib-CRITICAL **: file gthread.c: line 347: assertion `mutex' failed
/opt/sfw/lib/firefox/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 20950 Segmentation Fault (core dumped) "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

This is fairly reproducible. Is there a good place to submit SPARC Firefox bugs
(together with core files if needed)?

Thanks

http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/
is the properly place to go.

http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=3762
is an example of FF bug reported on it.
Core file is certainly helpful.

It seems you have a problem with gstreamer.
What plugin are you using?

The result of 'pstack core' would be helpful.

Thanks,

Ginn

AFAIK this is the latest flash but given its track record, it wouldn't
surprise meif it was the problem...

This has been submitted as a bug and a core file is available for upload
there - http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=11068; attached
is the pstack for a different (smaller) core file.

I get lots of these:
(thunderbird-bin:7357): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: file gobject.c: line 2366: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

but they seem to be harmless - seems to happen when Firefox loses focus ...

From the stack it looks like

Perhaps this bug is not fixed in the libraries bundled with Firefox 3.5.x contrib. builds.

Can you turn off event sounds in GNOME preference?

BTW: What system are you on? S10 or Nevada or OpenSolaris? uname -v result?

Thanks,

Ginn

Sorry, snv_103 (SPARC) and snv_111b (x86). Removing the flash plugin
does seem to fix all the problems. How does one go about reporting
bugs triggered by a plugin?

> Can you turn off event sounds in GNOME preference?

This is complicated a bit because Firefox is actually running on SUN4u,
but the WM is running on various X86s (OpenSolaris and RH-FC10) using
the x86 hardware as X-terminals. However I don't think it is the same
problem because removing the plugin seems to prevent the crashes and
spurious terminal messages. This is a very old (and forgotten) problem
with Adobe Flash on SPARC.

> BTW: What system are you on? S10 or Nevada or OpenSolaris? uname -v result?

See above. Firefox itself is running on Nevada - snv103 (SPARC). Going to
go soon for snv121 based on Martin's rave review (see x-window discuss).

The bug 4078 happens when it fails to open /dev/audio device.
Flashplayer uses /dev/audio, so gstreamer cannot open it from the same
process.
It explains why the crash is gone if you remove flash plugin.

The bug 4078 is fixed in snv_104.
So you can upgrade your SPARC and have a try.
