Multimedia screencasts featuring some rather familiar names: Brendan Gregg,
Tom Erickson, Ginnie Wray, Bill Rushmore...

DTrace for JavaScript Debugging
http://frsun.downloads.edgesuite.net/sun/07C00953/

Chime Visualization Tool for DTrace
http://frsun.downloads.edgesuite.net/sun/07C00941/

Dual Boot Installation of OpenSolaris on a Laptop
http://frsun.downloads.edgesuite.net/sun/07C00892/

+1! Whoops, Loser Alert ... I uttered +1! Sorry. What I meant to say was,
I agree with any positive sentiments that these videos might engender. :)

Eric

P.S. So now the question is, how did such useful stuff like this get
released, but in such a hard-to-find way, and w/out any announcements
anywhere... Or did I miss something?

P.S.S. Followups to opensolaris-discuss please.

If you can give me a few details, I can post an entry to On The Record site. It is owned by Sun PR and we are constantly publishing information to it and then letting the media know about it.

It is a great tool.

Sorry, I sent the wrong url for the webcast page.

Should have been:

DTrace for JavaScript Debugging
<http://
Presented by Brendan Gregg
<http://*, co-author
of Solaris Performance and Tools
<http://
Find out how to debug JavaScript using DTrace. With the popularity of
Web 2.0 technologies such as AJAX, there is an increasing need for
powerful debugging tools that can examine complex JavaScript software.
DTrace can examine JavaScript code execution in realtime, allowing the
identification of performance issues and bugs. By using DTrace for
JavaScript debugging, all sofware layers in the system can be examined
from the same tool, such as the software of the browser and the kernel.
For example, DTrace may help you prove that a performance issue is
actually a bug in the browser - and not your JavaScript code.

Presented by Tom Erickson, creator of Chime and the Java DTrace API*
See how easy it is to create live graphs of your own DTrace programs,
complete with viewable documentation and active drilldown. Tom built and
ran this Chime <http://
demo on his desktop AMD Opteron system running Solaris Nevada build 57

Chris -- Thanks! So now I'm wondering if, as things like this are
released, one of the potential places to "Cc" the release announcement were
opensolaris-announce. Not every piece of course, just the relevant ones,
e.g. when an OpenSolarian is featured. Can you maybe post an e-mail to
opensolaris-announce when that happens? Or is there a way an arbitrary
volunteer can be the conduit/filter? I.e. by subscribing somehow to
Community/Webcast releases...

Thanks!

We would have to post an email to opensolaris-announce. Solaris
Developer Center <http:// doesn't announce by
email, though if you subscribe
<https:// to the
Solaris Developer newsletter or get the RSS
<http:// feed you would hear about
it. You can't subscribe to the SDC webcast releases.

Hi -

The dual boot installation screencast is included as part of the
OpenSolaris Starter kit. Dave Hagerty and I originally developed this
as a presentation for a FROSUG user group meeting, and we were invited
to turn it into a screencast.

Maybe a link to screencasts should live on the documentation page? (I
included one on the FROSUG user group page.)

Speaking of videos on OpenSolaris technologies, I _loved_ this:
http://blogs.sun.com/constantin/entry/csi_munich_how_to_save

I found out about this via zfs-discuss and thought it would
be a good idea to broadcast it wider. Maybe it's even worthy
of opensolaris-announce(?)

Hi all,

The installation video has been updated to post-nv_55 installer for your use. Thanks to Mike Patino, Ginnie Wray, and Lynne Thompson for their hard work to do this. For the updated installation video, see http://frsun.downloads.edgesuite.net/sun/07C00892/media/demos/OpenSolarisDualBoot-Step4-OS-Installation.html

It's a very nice video, two issues, one the MB they had picked has a USB issue on the kernel boot sequence and second the video is low resolution, which suggest the vender ID and device number for this video card used in the video is not supported is, you can tell by the big desktop icons and the resolution does not match the Windows XP screen resolution. A RFE needs to be filed.
