Project proposal: ISCSI Extensions for RDMA

I'd like to propose a new Opensolaris project to implement iSCSI
Extensions for RDMA (iSER).

Project Synopsis:
iSCSI Extensions for Remote DMA (iSER)

Project Description:

The project would deliver an initiator and target implementation of iSER
and would use Infiniband as the underlying transport. iSER accelerates
the iSCSI protocol by mapping the data transfer phases to RDMA
operations. As a result an iSER initiator should be able to read and
write data from an iSER target at high data rates with relatively low
CPU utilization compared to iSCSI using TCP/IP. As a sub-task of the
iSER target implementation this project will develop and contribute an
Comstar iSCSI port provider implementation for the Comstar project.

I'd like to request endorsement by the Storage and HPC Developer
communities.

Project leaders:

Peter Dunlap
Dan Maslowski
Carla Mowers
Jesse Butler
Priya Krishnan

I will involve the Comstar iSCSI port provider.
