Hi!

I have already shared my thoughts with Thorsten F. regarding the bootcamp event.
I would like to come up with this idea again and propose to ogranize such event with a purpose to gather together for a few days for talking about OHAC internals, sharing tips and tricks, hacking and talking about new features.

Would somebody support my idea?

greets,

Aleks F.

Hi Alekes,

It's a great idea! Do you think it's good to include something like an "install fest" of OHAC as part of the event?

Thanks,
Swathi

The idea is great!
Can you provide more information for example where and when it would be done?
What country, this year, next year.

Hi!

Feel free to propose date and place. We have to agree on that.
It's just an idea so that all suggestions are welcomed!

Hi,

If you want to consider holding it in France, which is reasonably central
for EMEA, I'm sure we can offer the Sun R&D centre in Grenoble as a venue.
It would depend on the expected attendance, we've held meetings for over
100 people in the past, and could probably accommodate 150-200 if multiple
sessions were envisaged. That may be wishful thinking at this stage of the
community-building, but let's aim high :). We also have a number of cluster
experts in Europe.

Summer is hiking season in the Alps, winter is for skiing. We have two
ski stations within 40 minutes drive of the site...

Hi Aleks et al,

I would propose we start a wiki page that anyone interested can edit to
first start collecting things like

- who is actually interested in such an activity
- what are the topics of interest
- who can talk to those topics
- potential places
- potential dates
- potential events we could leverage for that activity
- etc

Since the opensolaris.org portal is (to my knowledge) lacking a
possibility where anyone interested can edit/change a page, my natural
choice would have been to create a page on e.g.
http://www.genunix.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

But it seems one is also not allowed to create new pages there - at
least my self created account can only edit existing pages.

Anyone has a good suggestion or the necessary rights/knowledge to get
such a page started?

We could also think if we want to combine such things with already
existing local user group meetings, ie. instead of on central meeting,
multiple geographic dispersed ones.

Other open source groups do things like online Hackathons - where ppl.
"meet" on irc over a weekend to get specific things done, etc. I am not
suggesting we must do that, but just do throw out some further ideas.

Marcelo did also make a good point that somehow it should get considered
if online streaming or online participation is possible for those that
can not physically attend - since we seem to be distributed within so
many countries.

Hello Thorsten,

Fortunately Sun Cluster Wiki is also opened for non-sun folks.
I was able to create a test page :)

http://wikis.sun.com/display/SunCluster/Sun+Cluster+Bootcamp+topics

I guess that everyone, interested in this idea, can provide answers to questions you raised.

Hi Aleks et al,

good idea, thanks for having a page started. I took the freedom to add a
bit more explanation. And by changing the title a bit I obviously
changed the URL to reach it:
http://wikis.sun.com/display/SunCluster/Solaris+Cluster+-+Open+HA+Cluster+Bootcamp+topics

So anyone interested feel free to change/add to that page. Lets see if
we get enough topics, ideas and interested ppl :)

I did write something on the wiki, would be nice if you could read and fix it.

Thanks, Leal. I've added some thoughts as well. Let's keep the ideas
coming, and then as a next step try to figure out format, venue, and date.

Thanks,
Nick

Aleks,

Great idea! I'd love to share some of my knowledge about OHAC and to
learn from folks outside Sun about your experiences with it and ideas
for future work.

One possibility would be to combine or at least co-locate this event
with the next OpenSolaris Developer Summit.

Thanks,
Nick

I like the idea. Maybe a good excuse to do "cluster enable your favorite
opensource app" sessions? I think a wider selection of cluster agents
would help bring in more users.
