The OpenSolaris development package repository

http://pkg.opensolaris.org/

has been updated to reflect the changes in snv_99 including an update
to GNOME 2.23.91, PHP 5.2.6, Python 2.5, drivers for the Areca SAS/SATA
RAID and Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100/5300 as well as fixes to the Caiman
"Slim Install" and the Image Packaging System (IPS). This update also
introduces the Distribution Constructor to the package repository.

Users who wish to update their system to the development build can do
so using the "image-update" facility provided by the pkg(1) command.
For important information about "image-update", see the instructions at

http://opensolaris.org/os/project/indiana/resources/rn3/image-update/

IMPORTANT NOTE: The development builds have undergone limited testing
and users should expect to uncover issues as the next release is
developed. Bug reports and requests for enhancement are welcome
through http://defect.opensolaris.org/

ISO images are being made available for this build via BitTorrent.
Torrent files are provided as follows

Primary Languages, gzip compression, 734M
http://dlc.sun.com/torrents/info/osol-0811-99.iso.torrent
(if burned to media, image should be burned to a DVD)

All Languages, LZMA compression, 659M
http://dlc.sun.com/torrents/info/osol-0811-99-global.iso.torrent
(if burned to media, image can be burned to a CD)

MD5 checksums for these images
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/indiana/files/md5sums_99.txt

The ISO images are also available for HTTP download from
http://www.genunix.org/

http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=2900

Using versions of the Adobe Flash Player plugin prior to
version 9.0.125.0 may cause Firefox to exit prematurely.

Work-around:

Install version 9.0.125.0 or greater of the plugin and
then restart Firefox.

3262 pkg image-update symbolic link error
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=3262

Updating an image using "pkg image-update" may fail with the
following error

OSError: [Errno 90] Number of symbolic links encountered during
path name traversal exceeds MAXSYMLINKS:
'/tmp/<some path>/var/svc/profile/inetd_generic.xml'

Work-around:

Remove /var/svc/profile/inetd_generic.xml and rerun the
"pkg image-update".

3740 installer runs into GNOME failures in bld 99
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=3740

When starting the installer from the live CD, an error message
box is displayed

An error occurred while loading or saving configuration
information for gui-install. Some of your configuration
settings may not work properly.

Also, the date and time in the installer's Time Zone, Date and

This is great thank you. Regarding the py25 release I tested it, but
the corresponding gnome-python-lib bits are missing. I've locally
packaged py25 and all corresponding libs gnome/gtk/glib py libs, but
wondering when it'll hit IPS? I specifically ran into a gtk issue where
gtk.gdk.threads_init would fail.. There's also regressions in the
latest versions of pygobject I need to make patches for and file bugs.

I also plan to take a poke at libffi with sun cc so we can have ctypes,
but I have a feeling based on comments form others the inline asm may
pose a challenge.

Cheers,

./C

That's correct. We will migrate all the add-ons gradually.

Build 100 will include 2.15.4 (still for 2.4 only) fixing a few issues.

ctypes should work in 2.5 out of the box. Let me know if it doesn't.

Thanks Luca!

Yeah, but libffi is with gcc..

base-specs/libffi.spec
%build
export CC="/usr/sfw/bin/gcc -static-libgcc"

Is it on a todo list to do this under SS12/SSX?

You have patches now for pygobject-2.15.4 or need to make them? If
you're working out of a public branch anywhere maybe we can sync
efforts? Or feel free to ping me off list

Thanks

Very cool background picture.

Everything works fine from B98 except I have to empty my /opt fold
first before update.
Otherwise I'll run into the error:
"pkg: image-update cannot be done on live image"

Thanks,

What is this new introduction, Distribution Constructor?

Just a little problem (if we could call that a problem), in the
System/Administration the icon for Package Manager is empty, where can I
find it?

Icons are under /usr/share/package-manager, please file a bug about the
icon not appearing for you, though.

The application icon shouldn't be installed in /usr/share/package-
manager. That's a bug too.

Ah. Not so good. Upgrading from '98 to '99 on my Ultra 40 resulted in
an unusable system. After booting, and before getting to Hostname: it
started reporting errors:

atapi_start_cmd: drive select failed
WARNING: /pci@0,0/pci-ide@4/ide@0 (ata0):
timeout: early timeout, target=0 lun=0

this repeated once a minute or so. After about 10 minutes it started to
look like it was actually making progress (hostname, read ZFS config,
mount ZFS filesystems, reporting the above errors through syslog rather
than straight to the console), but then a few minutes later appeared to
stop making any progress at all, the ata errors disappearing. I will
get onto defect.opensolaris, I just wanted to warn people here.

You may be running into

6753758 ata driver doesn't work in snv_99 (older systems only?)

The documented workaround is to turn off DMA in /kernel/drv/ata.conf

ata-dma-disabled=1

I just reported that my Sun Ultra 40 would no longer boot after updating
to '99, with

atapi_start_cmd: drive select failed
WARNING: /pci@0,0/pci-ide@4/ide@0 (ata0):
timeout: early timeout: target=0 lun=0

repeating once a minute. Rummaging around on defect.opensolaris.org got
me to

http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=2368
http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6643143

Using the workaround mentioned there, I tried setting

timing_flags=0x1;

in /kernel/drv/ata.conf, and that has given me a working system.

Cheers,

Rob

Where did you set that?
I'm having the exact same problem but I don't know where to type that command.

Went not that well, at least after the install it doesn't just sit in the grub shell anymore (this was the case in 2008.05) however I've also changed my hardware.

The following problems arose:

The clock is horribly wrong, I installed on 19th of October the Clock was showing 19th Feb, even it WAS correctly set in the Bios. After installation when I try to change the clock and add a new place, I enter my region information, the clock in the panel crashes.

2. I had Internet Access when I used the live CD perfectly well, Device Tool showed just that my TV Card would not be supported the rest was ok. After the installation I have no network access.

I could ping my gateway, I can do a nslookup google.com which returns the correct IP, however when I do ping google.com or try to open any webpage in FireFox I get unknown host, despite entering the IP in Firefox works.

(IP was set to static using Gnome network-admin), even after reboot same problem (of course)

3. My printer was correctly showing up when I used the Install CD, after System was installed I get

pci/@ ohci port 2 device connect failed (the error message is from scratch, as I'm now on my linux System again)
