# Project name

OpenSolaris Lending Project

# A short synopsis of the project's purpose.

Kiva.org is non-profit organization that lets users lend to businesses
in the developing world. Kiva.org allows its users to form communities
(lending groups) around common interests and to do their lending as
part of their lending group. The "OpenSolaris Lending Project" would
be the counterpart within the OpenSolaris community to an OpenSolaris
lending group on Kiva.org. Project members would be lending on behalf
of themselves as members of the OpenSolaris Community.

# A list of community groups sponsoring the project.

None

# A list of participants (with their OpenSolaris user IDs) on the
initial project team, including a single individual who will serve as
the leader or preferred point of contact.

algnod (Alexander Gnodtke) I would be the preferred point of contact.
Others on advocacy-discuss have indicated their interest

# A one paragraph description of the project for an audience of
participants who may not be familiar with the area in which work is
proposed. This should contain a brief description of the problem(s)
the project is expected to solve, and of the manner in which it will
do so.

In light of possible trademark issues surrounding the OpenSolaris
brand, I decided that it would not be wise to form a lending group
named OpenSolaris Lending Group or similar on a third party website
(kiva.org) without the prior consent of the OpenSolaris community.
This project is the entity responsible for managing all issues around
the OpenSolaris Lending Group on kiva.org. OpenSolaris community
members who are also users of kiva.org may then lend as part of an
OpenSolaris lending group.
The benefit, albeit very small, to OpenSolaris will be visibility on a
very popular site where other lending groups like Google, Microsoft,
Sun Microsystems, GNU/Linux and others already exist. The benefit to
everyone will be, possibly some new kiva.org members and some
additional loans to help others lift themselves from poverty.

# A listing of related, ongoing, or proposed projects, including
information about any dependencies on or by this project and any
duplication of purpose or overlap with other work.

None that I am aware of.

# Any additional information which may be of interest to prospective
project team members and/or consumers of the project's output.

This project is simply about doing something good by helping others
and being able to do it in a community you care about.

If we use OpenSolaris in the name we have to follow the Sun trademark
guidelines, so we have to say "OpenSolaris /Community/ Lending ... "

Advocacy is sponsoring it. :) You only need one and you got it.
