updated anniversary t-shirt mockup

Hey all,

On the last Anniversary conf-call on Thurs 25th May, I was asked to do
another mockup of the anniversary t-shirt with a few changes (can't
remember who suggested them, sorry)

So, here we have it :

http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/marketing/files/opensolaris-anniversary-orange.png

... and the original source file (so that people can mess about further
with placement, logos, colours, etc.)
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/marketing/files/opensolaris-anniversary.xcf

Again, my GIMP skills aren't the greatest, but you should be able to get
the general idea. In particular, what's new here, are the off-centre
placement of the "1" motif (too big, too small?) and some logos on the
sleeves.

Thoughts and comments are welcome. According to the poll on unixville,
the orange t-shirt won, so that's what's here, but there's a black
variant near those links above if you're interested.

cheers,
tim

I like the idea of not having the #1 centered: It changes from the usual...

In my opinion, the number should be centered.

On an advert, text and logo generally appears in the bottom right
corner, but not on a tshirt. The OpenSolaris aspect is less visible if
it is around someone's waist.

I think that people will be less inclined to wear a tshirt like this. I
have a tshirt with an off-centre logo and I never wear it, it looks
fussy. The number containing the logo and the code is already a
stylised representation, I don't think it's advisable to go beyond that
and dabble with the overall layout. The number on the chest is iconic,
the number in the corner is, to my mind, ugly. For the same reason, I
would have only one logo (or none) on the sleeve.

I do think that the number is about the right size for the shirt.

Okay, those points make sense - I've done a centred version of that
image, and removed one of the sleeve logos. You can see that at:

this version looks much better, but white sun logo simply does not feel
right to me.

I originally thought orange would be cool and voted for it, but when I
saw the preview, black one with gray frame around centered number one
looked much more professional to me.

With full respect to your work Tim, this orange one looks like it's
coming from engineer hands.

There is a nice thing at
http://wellstyled.com/tools/colorscheme2/index-en.html
where you can play with different variations of colors and their contrasts.

I have found one nice page at
http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/color-schemes.html where you can see
various color schemes in action.

The theory behind colors goes way back to classic painters era and has
not changed till then.

If you look at opensolaris logo that we all use, it uses oposit colors
from the color wheel and that's why it looks cool and professional. More
over it looks nice on black or white because black and white are far
enough from orange/blue to be contrasty when it comes to saturation.

according to color theory black on orange and white on orange does not
feel right (and thus IMHO look unprofesional).

I have attached the color scheme where I could generate opensolars
blue/orange on the foreground and yellow on the backgroud.

Note that it's rather hard to find anything that fits on orange
background and does have some relation to existing osol colors.

just my .2 cents

Excellent, my credentials as a geek, rather than a fashion designer have
been well and truly restored, many thanks Martin ! :-)

I understand your comments, and reckon you probably know what you're
talking about - I'll happily leave the aesthetics of this for someone
else to work out[1]...

cheers,
tim

[1] seriously, I've no idea : the missus tends to make most of the
colour choices at home, shows how much she trusts my complete lack of
artistic sense!
