The OpenSolaris project presents new teaching, research, and learning opportunities using the OpenSolaris code base as a foundation. We'd like to invite you and other members of your institution to participate in the OpenSolaris community.

For now, we've created a mailing list so those of you in academia and research can easily correspond about your ideas for the OpenSolaris project. Subscribe to edu-discuss AT opensolaris DOT org and start collaborating with other like-minded community members.

When it's time, more specific lists focused on faculty, students and researchers will be added. And you can expect to see projects develop around curriculum or a joint development effort, or two…or more. You'll also find news about coding contests and bounty programs here too.

Want to get involved?

Here are some activities that Sun is ready to help you with:

• Host an OpenSolaris workshop on your campus
• Start an OpenSolaris user group
• Become an OpenSolaris Center of Excellence
• Collaborate with Sun to integrate OpenSolaris into your operating systems curriculum
• Sponsor an OpenSolaris development project
