Subject: Flag Day: wificonfig + atheros driver
The following putback represents a flag-day for anyone who has been
using wificonfig and drivers from frkit or the wifi team's website:
PSARC 2003/722 WiFi PCMCIA Driver Productization
PSARC 2005/681 wificonfig amendment
6209926 a wifi config tool is needed for managing the wifi drivers
PSARC 2005/440 Atheros 802.11b/g driver
5050300 Solaris need Atheros AR5212 WiFi driver
This putback is for users who wish to use wifi on solaris. The
users can use wifi cards with Atheros AR5212 chip to connect to the
wireless network, and use wificonfig to manage the wifi interface.
For non-root user:
solaris.network.wifi.config
and
solaris.network.wifi.wep
authorizations are needed to run most of the wificonfig subcommands.
If you have previously been using the wifi tools and drivers from
Casper Dik's frkit, or by getting the software directly from the wifi
team's website, you will need to get new versions of the drivers, as
the old ones are no longer compatible with the new wificonfig.
Obviously, you needn't get the atheros driver, as it is now shipped
with the system.
Please mail wificonfig-core at sun dot com if any problems are encountered.
Bugs may be filed at the Product/Category/Subcategory solaris/driver/wifi.
