Heads-Up: Single hosts fileDate: Fri, 18 Aug 2006 15:46:48 -0400 From: Rishi Srivatsavai <Rishi.Srivatsavai at Sun dot COM> To: on-all at eng dot sun dot com, onnv-gate at onnv dot eng dot sun dot com Subject: Heads-Up: Single hosts file With my putback for: PSARC 2006/299 single hosts file 6219146 /etc/inet/hosts and /etc/inet/ipnodes need to be the same file Solaris no longer has two separate hosts files; instead, /etc/inet/hosts is the single hosts file containing both IPv4 and IPv6 entries. If you do not use BFU or do not maintain cached copies of the BFU script you can disregard this message. This is a heads-up message for all BFU users and those who maintain copies of the BFU script to use the updated BFU script from the SUNWonbld package (available from /ws/onnnv-gate/public/packages) after midnight pacific time. BFU users must run 'acr' after upgrade from a build prior to this putback to invoke the class action script responsible for merging entries from /etc/inet/ipnodes into /etc/inet/hosts. In the future, BFU'ing backwards across this putback will not restore host entries back in the ipnodes file. The /etc/inet/hosts file will continue to have all host entries. To workaround this, administrators may safely replace the /etc/inet/ipnodes file with a symlink to /etc/inet/hosts after the backwards BFU. Name lookups will continue working and the system will not be otherwise affected. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Rishi |
