If you use CD, DVD, floppy, USB or FireWire devices, please read.
If you build, Install or BFU ON, please read.

The integration of:

PSARC 2005/399 Tamarack: Removable Media Enhancements in Solaris
	6460497 Tamarack (ON)
	6460498 vold EOF removal

removes vold(1M), volfs(7FS), related conf files and commands from Solaris.
A new framework based on open source components is offered as a replacement.

(Cap Eye)Install users: you need to BFU or upgrade.

BFU users: should use the latest bfu script which will be available shortly
at /ws/onnv-tools/onbld/bin/bfu. If your WOS build is older than 46,
bfu will ask you to run /ws/onnv-gate/public/bin/update_dbus first
(look in the script for the list of packages it will update).
As always, be sure to resolve conflicts with 'acr'.

Build machine maintainers: ON now requires D-Bus and GLib packages to build.
Run /ws/onnv-gate/public/bin/update_dbus to install these packages.

ALL USERS: After upgrading to the new ON bits, vold and /vol will be gone,
but CDs and USB disks will continue to be mounted upon insertion and can
still be ejected/unmounted using eject(1). You can also use new commands
rmmount(1) and rmumount(1). Man pages will be available in build 52,
meanwhile they can be found at:

One important change: an unprivileged user has to be logged on the console
to be allowed to manage local removable media and devices. Your current GUI
environments will continue to work. The upcoming integration of GNOME 2.16
in Nevada will use this project's components to deliver a much enhanced
experience with removable media. If you wish to try the early development
version of JDS-next, or have other questions, start with the FAQ:

There will be bugs, especially since we are adopting a significant amount
of open source code. We appreciate your patience. File bugs in the
following cat/subcats:

	solaris/utility/hal bugs against HAL
	solaris/library/libhal bugs against libhal
	solaris/library/libpolkit	bugs against libpolkit
	solaris/volmgt/rmvolmgr bugs against rmvolmgr
