Minor xVM flag day: 6667553 Port virtinst 0.300_3Date: Tue, 17 Jun 2008 14:38:00 -0700 From: John Danielson <John.Danielson at sun dot com> To: on-all at eng dot sun dot com, onnv-gate at onnv dot eng dot sun dot com Subject: Minor xVM flag day: 6667553 Port virtinst 0.300_3 If you do not use xVM or do not use virt-install to install xVM guests, you can ignore this message. The putback of 6667553 Port virtinst 0.300_3 to /ws/xvm-gate constitutes a minor flag day for users of virt-install(1) to create Solaris Nevada or Indiana para-virtual guests on the xVM hypervisor. This version of virt-install requires build 89 or greater of Nevada or Indiana due to changes in xVM device naming that were putback into build 89. If you see the following messages on the install console of your guest, you are using a pre-89 build of Solaris. WARNING: Unrecognized device: xvda WARNING: Unrecognized device: xvda WARNING: Unrecognized device: xvdb WARNING: Unrecognized device: xvdb Note: this only applies to installation of para-virtual guests. Fully virtual (hvm) guest installations are not subject to this restriction. Another change to note is network installation of para-virtual guests now requires the mac address of the guest to be specified on the command line using the '-m/--mac=' option; the previous version of virt-install would generate a random mac address if one was not supplied. Again, note that is restriction only applies to para-virtual guests. Please send any questions you may have to either myself or the xVM team at matrix-eng at sun dot com Thanks, - john |
