Performance Benchmark Links

Here's some links to benchmarks that can be used to test OpenSolaris. These benchmarks will also be available for the community to use in the forthcoming self test facility.

FileBench

FileBench is a new framework for simulating applications on file systems. It's Sun developed, and is currently being used to measure the performance of ZFS, UFS, QFS and NFS. The open source project is at http://sourceforge.net/projects/filebench/.

LibMicro

Libmicro is a portable set of benchmarks used for measuring the performance of system and library calls. For further details see the libmicro homepage at http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/performance/libmicro/.

Netperf

Netperf is a benchmark that can be used to measure the performance of many different types of networking. It provides tests for both unidirecitonal throughput, and end-to-end latency. For further details see the netperf homepage at http://www.netperf.org/netperf/NetperfPage.html

iPerf

iPerf is a tcp and udp benchmark. For further details see the iPerf homepage at http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Iperf/

nttcp

nttcp is a network benchmark. For further details please refer to the source code, available at http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/pds.cgi?ports/benchmarks/nttcp

Apache Bench

Apache bench is a http benchmark for use with the apache webserver. Further details are available on the apache website at http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/programs/ab.html

X11Bench

X11Bench is used for benchmarking XServer performance. Further details are available at http://www.x.org

LMBench

LMBench is a suite of simple portable benchmarks for Unix. Futher details are available at http://www.bitmover.com/lmbench/whatis_lmbench.html

Bonnie

Bonnie is primarily a harddrive performance benchmark, but can be used to analyse file system performance. Further details are available at http://www.textuality.com/bonnie/

IOZone

IOZone is a filesystem benchmark focused on filesytem areas such as read, write, re-read, re-write, read backwards, read strided, fread, fwrite, random read, pread ,mmap, aioread, aiowrite. Futher details are available at http://www.iozone.org/

Samba Torture

Samba Torture is a benchmark for measuring samba performance. Further details are available on the samba homepage at http://www.samba.org

Slamd

Slamd is a benchmark framework predominantly used for measuring ldap performance, but it can be utilised to measure the performance of any network based application. Further details are available at http://www.slamd.com
