AnnouncementsThese are the official-ish announcements of the KDE-Solaris team. The same announcements will often be reflected in the blog entries. For KDE announcements, see the KDE announcements page on KDE.org. Basic KDE4 desktop builds consistently | 04/04/2008The KDE SVN modules libs, pimlibs, base, toys, utils, graphics, edu and games all build fairly consistently on OpenSolaris at this point. There can be some tricky things with source moves and there's no guarantee that it works at any particular point in time (or indeed with any particular set of compiler patches; we're still working on documenting that), but for those with a fierce desire to run KDE4 now on the OpenSolaris desktop, it's possible. Stop in on #kde-solaris for a chat or if you get stuck. Do read the instructions on KDE Techbase first, though. Update to Qt 4.4 | 02/27/2008KDE trunk has switched to Qt 4.4 (available as qt-copy or as pre-release snapshots from Trolltech) in preparation for the Qt 4.4 release and KDE 4.1 (scheduled for June or July). The build repository in CVSDude has been updated with qt-copy. You must pkgrm FOSSqt and re-build it to get the new version, useful for building KDE4 trunk. KDE4 release event | 01/17/2008The KDE4 release event at the Google campus in Mountain View was well attended. There was also enough discussion of OpenSolaris for it to be fun for OSOL folk. There was KDE4 running on a Thinkpad T60, which was a big step forward. A presentation on the state of the KDE4 desktop and plans of the KDE-Solaris community was held at MPK16. Build Repository | 09/01/2007KDE4 has a huge number of dependencies — C and C++ libraries, CMake as a cross-platform build system, Qt — which are not available on a standard (Open)Solaris installation. In order to keep these dependencies building and in order to share knowledge on how to build all the bits and pieces, the KDE-Solaris team maintains a repository at CVSDude with patches, makefiles, etc. for a complete build of KDE4. Get an SVN checkout of http://svn2.cvsdude.com/kdesolaris/trunk/Doc and look at the README. Sun Netherlands lends a hand | 08/23/2007The Sun Microsystems Netherlands office is lending the KDE-Solaris project a hand in the run up to KDE4. The KDE-Solaris team is focusing on delivering KDE4 for OpenSolaris at the same time as it arrives for Linux and FreeBSD, and now has access to an Ultra45 workstation and an X4600 server for build and runtime testing. This means that the dependencies for KDE4 will be available from the KDE-Solaris team as well as the desktop itself. |
