San Francisco User Group

The SFOSUG meets monthly in the city, at a roving location that provides beer and wifi. Join our ug-sfosug or read the archives to find out about next month's meeting details. A photo of our first meeting.

Next Meeting November 24th, 2008 at Kate O'Brian's, San Francisco on Howard between 1st and 2nd

See you there! We'll be a group, one with spiked black hair, one with blond pony-tail, and a girl with fluffy curls. I will bring a sign.

Minutes of October. 26th, 2008

We welcomed new members Riku Tse and Claire to our group in October and had a great time talking with them about all things OpenSolaris. This was our largest meeting yet!

Minutes of Sept. 29th, 2008

We enjoyed the atmosphere and conversation at Kate O'brian's again this month along with our newest member, Luc! Luc joins us from a nearby video game developer company in SF that offers a virtual playground with free games, friends and FUN. We all talked about the vast superiority of Solaris/OpenSolaris for hosting and multi-threaded performance. We discussed packaging and pre/post scripts (aka actions) at length and discussed modernization and familiarity concepts. We are all very excited for OpenSolaris 2008.11 and hope you will join us for another interesting and invigorating group meeting next month as we wind-up!

Minutes of August 25, 2008

Another fine evening of beers and pub food we all had! Dan Price of Zones/Atude fame joined us this night. Pradeep, we missed you! We cheered the updates to our opensolaris.org home page, talked about IPS, Sonbird for x86, Zones upgrade path from SXCE to OpenSolaris and wondered if Luc would find us--next time we'll make a nice sign or wear some more obvious OSOL swag. Join us Luc, together we'll rule the galaxy!

Minutes of July 27, 2008

This evening began with bangers and mash, Boddington's and a full table of new, but familiar, faces. We more than doubled attendance since our first meeting, so we're sure to conquer the universe by year's end. We had engineers from Zones, ZFS, Systems, DTrace/Fishworks, and IPS, plus an OpenSolaris 2008.05 Architect and an OpenSolaris Governing Board Member. Snap!

We discussed all the merits of the opensolaris websites, the forums, Nimbus, sudo, and search. We talked at length about benchmarking, licensing, and Mercurial tips and tricks. We closed the place down, yahooing about reggae music and SongBird extensions, a real blast! It was truly the thinktank we knew it could be. Where the heck were you?

Minutes of June 30, 2008

We started by enjoying hot wings, fries, soda, and beers at Kate O'Brian's on Howard Street at 7pm. Happy hour is from 5-7, so we'll note the earlier start time next month. Stevel had to catch a bus across the bridge at 8, so we briefly discussed SongBird evangelism with him and his recent experience with outreach. We made a list of all the SF folks that could join us for future meetings and agreed to contact them in the coming month. We wondered if Eric was drinking a mai tai...

We also talked about OpenSolaris on VirtualBox and VMware, we discussed IPS and packaging processes for our community. We read some 2008.05 documentation and passed around some USBs. We noted that we should have links to the usbcopy utility next to each download link we have on the web sites. We discussed the recent SVOSUG meeting and brainstormed ideas for working with them, handing off code from our meeting to theirs and back again. A great time was had by all!
