Laptop

The goal of this project is to improve the support for Tadpole mobile SPARC platforms in OpenSolaris, primarily by introducing software from Tadpole, but also by enhancing that software ourselves.

In some cases Tadpole proprietary solutions may be eschewed for more platform neutral approaches. We will have to coordinate closely with the laptop community to do this.

The following Tadpole platforms are targeted:

  1. SPARCLE (douglas)
  2. SPARCbook 5000/6000 (phoenix)
  3. UltraBook IIi (huxley)
  4. UltraBook IIe (dinsdale)
  5. Voyager IIi
  6. Viper
  7. Bullfrog (numerous variants)

As a consequence of our work, we may actually improve things for other platforms as well… for example integrating an enhanced vuidsynps2 module is one of this projects goals, and is likely to benefit OpenSolaris users on many x86-based laptops.

Bryan Cantrill has just posted one of the more excellent blog posts I've seen this year -- he manages to put to words some of my heretofore unvoiced doubts about transactional memory. I'm a big fan ...

Garrett D'Amore - fdc suspend/resume support

In another update, I've updated fdc (the floppy disk controller) so that it supports suspend/resume even if a floppy drive is present. There is one caveat though -- namely that the drive must be ...

I've updated iprb ( Intel Pro/100 Ethernet driver) to support suspend/resume and quiesce (fast reboot). I've also made some other changes, such as updating to the latest microcode from Intel, fixing ...

Garrett D'Amore - Boomer: Next Generation Audio for Solaris

Oct 28, 4:24 PM

I've posted draft inception materials for our PSARC case, 2008/318, for Boomer. Boomer is the code name for the effort to integrate a modern OSS-compatible API, and additional drivers, into Solaris. ...
