OpenSolaris Website Content Guidelines

General Information

The OpenSolaris Website Content Guidelines are published by the OpenSolaris Website Community. Website conversations take place on the website-discuss list.

opensolaris.org is a community website. The content on the site and within the site's mailing lists and forums should consist of only relevant information and discussion about OpenSolaris.

These guidelines are intended to help users contribute to the community and use the resources available in the intended way. The OpenSolaris Terms of Use and Privacy Policy cover the legal aspects of opensolaris.org, and community members are encouraged to consult these documents.

How do I report abuse?

To report a message that violates the Terms of Use, such as spam, send a mail with a link to the message to [help AT opensolaris DOT org].

If you believe that your account may have been compromised, please send mail with your account user name to [help AT opensolaris DOT org].

A member of our team will respond to your report as soon as possible.

Individual Communities

Each community drives its own content and is responsible for populating its pages and adhering to this policy and the TOU.

Communities can link to resources outside opensolaris.org as long as the TOU is followed.

New communities and projects can be requested by following guidelines published by the OpenSolaris Governing Board.

Mail Lists

Each community is responsible for the proper management of their mailing lists. Lists are subject to review based on the TOU and may be suspended or removed due to insufficient traffic or poor management of non-member message postings.

Insufficient traffic is defined as

  • No posts in the last month;
  • Or less than 3 posts in the last 3 months.

Main OpenSolaris Pages

Leaders from the OpenSolaris Website community will evaluate and post content to the main pages and any sub domains. Content on the website and email aliases should focus on developer issues, related technical content, and other ways to contribute to the OpenSolaris community.

The related links page will be updated via requests made to website-discuss. Requests will be evaluated and updated by the leaders of the OpenSolaris Website community.

The external News and OpenSolaris Events pages are updated by the leaders of the Advocacy community. Contact them on advocacy-discuss to participate.

The Announcements list is for project- and community-wide OpenSolaris news. It's open to all community members and, and it's moderated for one way traffic. Post to opensolaris-announce to get into the queue. Most announcements are approved within a few hours.

To add blogs, make a request to add-my-blog at sun dot com with your name, blog link and feed, and opensolaris.org user name.

Suggestions for content changes to other parts of the site — such as front page features, project overview, FAQ center, roadmap, site map, events, and any sub domains — can be made via the website-discuss list.

Website Maintenance

The OpenSolaris operations team regularly updates opensolaris.org to maintain system performance and add new features. These updates may require the entire website infrastructure — or specific applications, such as server mail or the source code management system — to be unavailable for scheduled periods of time.

The information below details our scheduled maintenance procedures.

  • Regular website maintenance will be scheduled for Tuesdays between 6-8 AM (PT), whenever possible.
  • If a machine will be down for less than 30 minutes we will provide at least 3 hours notification on both the opensolaris-announce and the website-discuss mailing lists.
  • If a machine will be down for more than 30 minutes we will provide 3 days of notification time on both the opensolaris-announce and the website-discuss mailing lists.

If you have experienced a problem with an application after an upgrade, please contact the website-discuss mailing list to report the issue you encountered.

Content Review

Technical articles for the articles page require review. The article's sponsor drives review of the document for technical accuracy and requests that the OpenSolaris Website community publish the article on the articles page.

Dispute Resolution

See the OpenSolaris Governing Board's dispute resolution policies in the OpenSolaris Constitution.

Updates

This policy will be updated regularly to reflect changes in the community and program.
